The Reiki Precepts
The Reiki Precepts or codes of practice (gokai) were written by its founder, Mikao Usui, and form its foundation as a spiritual path.
You will find several variations and translations of the Reiki Precepts but the one that really resonates with me goes like this:
"Just for today I will let go of anger.
Just for today I will let go of worry.
Today I will count my many blessings.
Today I will do my work honestly.
Today I will be kind to every living thing."
In the Japanese texts from which the Reiki Precepts were translated, they are preceded by the introduction:
"The secret of inviting happiness through many blessings, the spiritual medicine for all illness."
Following that introduction we are instructed to:
"Do gassho every morning and evening, keep in your mind and recite."
(Gassho means "two hands coming together" as one would do in the prayer position or the Namaste greeting).
The two closing lines acknowledge the benefits that we can expect to achieve and give the name of the system and its founder:
"Improve your mind and body
Usui Reiki Ryoho, the founder Mikao Usui."
(Usui Reiki Ryoho literally translated means Usui Spiritual Healing Method)
